Homestay Part Two: Hey, Hey We're the Monkees

Manuel Antonio
Last week, after our Spanish final and our graduation ceremony, Briana and I decided to reward all of our hard work with a trip to Manuel Antonio.  This little national park is a peninsula in the Pacific Ocean.  After over four hours of driving, we were the last to get off the bus in the little village that surrounds it.  We were armed with a jar of Goobers Peanut Butter and Jelly, a loaf of bread, and aspirations to find monkeys.
In addition to having balanced diets, Briana and I photograph super well together.
Manuel Antonio a a wonderful mixture of paths and beaches, and is populated by Costa Rican raccoons, iguanas, and monkeys.

Although we heard howler monkeys many times over the day (how could you not?) and saw them from afar, most of our interaction was with the little white faced monkeys.

Get Ready.

Get Set.

Go!
We also had a persistent iguana friend.  This little guy was very interested in our lunch.  He snuck up behind us and stayed there for about twenty minutes.
It rather alarming to reach for the sunblock and come face-to-face with an Iguana.
Almost the entire park ends in a cliff, and after all that hill-climbing and humidity  we were very ready for some time at the beach.  Later in the evening, Briana and I stopped at the beach to watch a romantic sunset together.

It was beautiful, but what we saw after dark was even better.

Briana spotted the bioluminescence first; she had seen it before.  It lasted for about twenty minutes, and, while bioluminescence was something we had been hoping to see on our travels, we were shocked to see it in Manuel Antonio.   It looked like slow, blue lighting was tracing the crest of every wave, and was the perfect end to our adventure.
